Oasis Community Builder and Voyager Participation

The Voyager program is for adult Oasis members with disabilities.

Our Community Builder, Polly DeStigter, has a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology and a Master's Degree in Applied Behavior Analysis. For the last four years, she has helped Voyagers find resources and experiences in the city of Grand Rapids, while also helping to create deep and meaningful connections and friendships. She has helped them discover new classes and volunteer opportunities and plan fun events.

What to expect: One planning meeting (typically virtual) and two Voyager events a month.  Voyager members may also be able to schedule personal one-on-one time with Polly to work on specific issues if needed.

What do they need to commit to: Voyager members should attend the planning meeting and attend at least one Voyager event a month. They must want to participate and they should commit to activities and events.  The Voyager members plan and participate in their activities and events without parents/guardians.  Polly attends all Voyager events.

Why is there a fee? Fees collected are used to pay for the Community Builder.  Oasis Community fundraising covers more than half of the cost of the Community Builder’s salary. Fee is $65 a month.

If your Oasis Community member with a disability is interested in participating in the Voyager program, please contact Lynn Surdock at lynn@surdock.com or Grace Smith at designsmiths@hotmail.com.
